Sapadere Canyon: Alanya’s Refreshing Mountain Walk

East of Alanya, at the foot of the Taurus Mountains, Sapadere Canyon offers a refreshing escape among clear water, shaded rock walls and mountain vegetation. Formed around the source of Sapadere Stream, the canyon extends for roughly 750 metres. Its steep sides and changing water colours turn a relatively short walk into a vivid nature experience.

What will you see?

Steel and wooden walkways lead from the entrance along the stream. The raised route provides close views of narrow rock passages and turquoise pools without requiring a demanding hike. A waterfall about 300 metres inside the canyon is one of the main photography points. Flow varies by season, with late spring and early summer often bringing livelier water.

Getting there

Travel east from Alanya toward Gazipaşa, then follow the turn near Demirtaş and signs for Sapadere village. The road becomes narrower and winding in places as it enters the hills. Daylight travel is more comfortable, and current road and canyon conditions should be checked after heavy rain. Opening hours and admission can change, so consult official or local information shortly before your visit.

Walking and safety tips

Although the walkways make access easier, damp sections may be slippery. Wear shoes with reliable grip, keep children close near the water and stay behind railings. Mountain water remains very cold even in summer; approach only at permitted points and follow every safety notice. Morning visits usually offer fewer people and softer light.

Add Sapadere village

Complete the route with a short stop in Sapadere village, where a traditional water mill and local silk-weaving heritage provide a glimpse of rural culture. Use picnic areas responsibly, protect the stream and take all waste away.

Sapadere Canyon delivers a close encounter with Taurus Mountain scenery without a long trek. It is a cool, peaceful and photogenic alternative for travellers exploring the Alanya side of Antalya.
